Pricing Estimates for Importing a Japanese Auction Car to Australia

Importing a car from Japan to Australia can be an exciting and cost-effective way to acquire a high-quality vehicle. However, it's essential to understand the pricing estimates and factors involved in the process to make an informed decision. In this guide, we'll break down the key considerations and costs associated with bringing a Japanese auction car to Australia.

Costs included:

  1. Vehicle Cost:

    • The first and most significant cost is the purchase price of the car at the Japanese auction. This price can vary widely depending on the make, model, condition, and demand for the vehicle.

  2. Auction Fees:

    • When you win a bid at a Japanese auction, you'll be required to pay auction fees. These fees cover the auction house's services and can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on the auction house and the vehicle's price. This is normally included and covered under auction payment.

  3. Shipping Costs:

    • Shipping your vehicle from Japan to Australia involves both sea and land transportation. The cost depends on factors like the vehicle's size, weight, and the shipping method (container shipping is more expensive than roll-on/roll-off or Ro-Ro). This cost may vary slightly due to congestion and exchange rate fluctuations. This charge would be approximatley around 3,000 to 4,000 AUD.

  4. Import Duties and Taxes:

    • Importing a car to Australia incurs various duties and taxes, including customs duties, GST (Goods and Services Tax), and luxury car tax (if applicable). These costs are calculated based on the vehicle's value and specifications.

    • GST is 10% of the CIF(Cost, Insurance and Freight) + Duty

    • Import duty is 0% for vehicles of Japanese orgin due to a free trade agreement in place.

    • Luxury car tax is 33%. If CIF + GST + Duty total value is less that LCT threshold LCT tax is 0. If the total value is higher than LCT threshold, LCT tax amount you have to pay = total value - LCT threshold x 33%. LCT threshold is $76,950 AUD for 2024. Ex: 100,000(Total value)- $76,950(LCT threshold) x 33%(LCT tax percentage) = 8,250 AUD(LCT tax amount)

  5. Compliance and Modification Costs:

    • To ensure your Japanese auction car meets Australian safety and emissions standards, you may need to make modifications or upgrades. Compliance costs can include vehicle testing, engineering certificates, and necessary adjustments. Typical fee would be around 2,000 to 3,000 AUD. However, this fee can be increased depending on the car and extra work needed to comply.

  6. Transport and Delivery within Australia:

    • Once your car arrives in Australia, we need to arrange for its transport to your location, which may involve additional costs, especially if you're importing through a port far from your destination.

  7. Registration and Insurance:

    • Registering your imported vehicle in Australia and obtaining insurance coverage are ongoing expenses to consider.

  8. Currency Exchange Rates and Fees:

    • Currency exchange rates can impact the overall cost of importing a car, as you'll be converting AUD to Japanese yen for the auction purchase.

  9. Our Fees:

    • Our fees would be fixed at 1,200 AUD.
